1. All in all, I slept fairly well yesterday. I went to bed quite early in the first half of the night, probably around seven or eight o'clock. Then I woke up once shortly after one o'clock and couldn't fall asleep for a long time, so I just listened to some novels. I finally drifted off to sleep close to three o'clock. Later on, I had a lot of weird dreams, and when I woke up again, it was already past six.

2. When I got up this morning, I found that everything outside was covered in a thick layer of white, and it was absolutely freezing cold, of course. So I quickly fed the chickens, ducks and geese, changed the water for the little chicks and sprinkled some feed for them, then headed back home. Since my friend Ming was coming to buy a big goose from me today, I didn't open the fence gate, naturally.

3. By the time I got home, Dad had already lit the heating stove in the main room, and the hot water was heating up as a result. Taking the chance, I took the two little dogs out for a walk, just to get a bit of exercise. When we got back, the water had boiled, and we were able to cook dumplings in it. After the dumplings were done, I realized I'd made way too many—Dad and I each had two bowls before we finally finished them all.

4. After breakfast, Dad went to the town's market to buy some vegetables, and to pick up some cabbage leaves for the chickens, ducks and geese while he was at it. I stayed home waiting for my good buddy Ming to arrive. He showed up shortly before ten o'clock, and Dad got back home around the same time. Dad then stayed behind to start preparing lunch, while I drove the tricycle with Ming and his wife to the peach orchard to catch a big goose.

5. The tricycle jolted and shook violently as it rumbled along the dirt road, scaring the daylights out of the two of them. When we tried to catch the goose, the golden retriever and the little gray dog kept running around wildly, sending the chickens flapping and squawking everywhere—it took us quite a while to finally catch one big goose. After we tied it up, Ming and his wife held it in their hands, taking photos and laughing and joking away, making quite a lively scene. Once I unloaded the cabbage leaves from the tricycle, we all headed back home together. Then Ming drove the tricycle, and we went to town to get the goose slaughtered and cleaned up. We also picked up two cold dishes while we were there.

6. When we got back home again, Dad had already cooked rice in the earthen stove, just waiting for me to come back and stir-fry the dishes. While I was chopping the vegetables, Dad fried the fish perfectly. Then the stir-frying went quickly—we made three simple dishes: stir-fried bean sprouts with pork, stir-fried celery with pork, and a pickled cabbage fish soup. Served with the two cold dishes, we had a simple but hearty lunch. I have to say, the rice Dad cooked in the earthen stove today had a thick, crispy crust that was absolutely delicious; eating it was such a treat.

7. Since Ming had things to do in the afternoon, he and his wife headed home right after lunch. After seeing them off, I went to the peach orchard to bring some food to the dogs, then used the grinder to chop up some cabbage leaves separately for the chickens, ducks, geese and the little chicks, before finally going back home to take a nap.

8. I'd finally finished plowing the vegetable plot next to the peach orchard yesterday, so there weren't any urgent chores to do today. That's why I was able to take a really restful nap—and as a result, I slept a bit too long, not getting up until past three o'clock in the afternoon.

9. After getting up, I took the two little dogs to the peach orchard, where I picked up three eggs. I also gave the chickens, ducks and geese some cabbage leaves, then made my way back home.

10. Dinner was pretty simple—we just reheated the leftovers from lunch and called it a meal. After dinner, I soaked my feet, then grabbed a kettle of hot water and some food for the dogs, and made my way to the peach orchard.
