DO. House, designed by Simon de Burbure Architects, is a minimalist villa located in Kortrijk, Belgium. It offers a magnificent 360-degree panoramic view of the entire valley, establishing a close and serene dialogue with the surrounding natural environment. The design concept of DO. House originates from the lush natural landscape surrounding the site. Simon de Burbure Architects employs an integrated design approach that combines architecture, interior design, and landscape architecture, enabling the residence to form a unified visual language. Modernist techniques are used to express this, allowing the building to gently blend into the surrounding natural environment. Designer Cordie points out that the residence reflects the “calm yet vibrant” qualities of the homeowner couple. The overall space embodies a natural sense of flow, leaning towards a style that is simple yet warm, full of a sense of life, and timeless.

The indoor area of the residence spans 890 square meters, serving as a daily home for a middle-aged couple while also accommodating the gathering of their adult children on weekends. The space adopts an open layout, with panoramic views and natural light as its core elements, while also emphasizing comfort and a sense of protection. It includes four bedrooms, multiple living areas, and a wellness zone that features a connected gym and indoor swimming pool. A warm atmosphere is evident in numerous details: flexible enclosed resting areas, wide window sills with built-in seating, and an overall layout that balances openness with privacy needs.

The open living room on the ground floor centers around floor-to-ceiling panoramic windows and abundant natural light, introducing an expansive view while creating a warm, comfortable, and secure atmosphere. The space is furnished with a pair of Cassina LC armchairs and a chaise lounge designed by Le Corbusier, presenting a simple yet modern living quality.

The kitchen cabinets feature a rich chocolate-colored wood veneer, coordinated with a stainless-steel island and vintage T-chairs designed by Katavolos, Kelley, and Littell.

The Tube chandelier designed by Michael Anastassiades provides illumination for the curved staircase, endowing the space with a sculptural and soft visual experience.

The bedrooms are crafted with natural wood and warm-toned fabrics to create a tranquil and private space. Large windows invite in natural light and valley views, offering a restful experience that combines modern comfort with natural poetry. The bathrooms feature emerald green marble, echoing the lush tree canopy landscape outside and infusing the space with a serene and natural atmosphere. The interior also includes Pierre Chapo’s S31 stools, further enhancing the overall design’s coordination and comfort.

The interior employs a dark monochromatic palette, with chocolate-stained wood covering the floors, walls, and cabinets. Visual softness is achieved through aged concrete floors, matte stainless-steel kitchen islands, and finely textured walls. The space layout is smooth and open, with large glass curtain walls introducing natural landscapes. The floor-to-ceiling windows not only frame beautiful views but also embody the architect’s concept of “framed security.”

The residence selects bricks that harmonize with the grayish-brown hues of the surrounding coniferous forest, allowing the building to fully integrate into the natural environment. The linear bricks complement the tree-lined surroundings, reflecting the wooden tones of the valley and further reinforcing the integration of the building with the landscape. The materials retain their original rugged texture, adding an organic touch to the building. As the light changes throughout the day, the house’s colors subtly transform, as if blending into the seasonal rhythms of the forest.
